The holiday season is in the air. What’s a better way to get into the festive spirit than to listen to Christmas carols? For me, it’s s drawing them, of course.

This year, instead of just switching my Spotify playlist to holiday music, I decided to illustrate the all time classic Christmas carol “12 Days of Christmas”. It’s one of those holiday songs that never fails to bring some kind of cheer and joy whenever I listen to it.
This rootin’-tootin’ song comes up every Christmas but I’ve never really memorised the lyrics — except for the “five golden rings” part, obviously. However, after completing these illustrations, I kind of become more familiar with the verses, including the order of the gifts for each day.

A little fun fact about this song:
12 Days of Christmas is a cumulative song, meaning that each verse is built on top of the previous verse and its origin probably relate to a memory game. Many historians believe it originally started out as a poem dating back to the 1700s and wasn’t set to music until the 20th century.

I hope you have a joyful and wonderful holiday season this year. Lots of love.
Carolynn
